256 of 1001 Albums: Steely Dan’s Can’t Buy A Thrill

History
Steely Dan’s first album peaked at number one on the Billboard Charts, and it has been certified gold, and platinum in U.S. Rolling Stones also placed it at 238 on their Greatest Albums of All Time List. The cover art did fascinate me, as it has some graphic stuff over here, and then what appears just to be a line of ladies. The line of ladies are prostitutes waiting on clients. As you can imagine this had the album cover banned in some countries, and replaced. Critic feedback was generally good for the album.
My Thoughts
Steely Dan was…not that good. I found the album cover much more interesting to ponder, and look at for the duration of this album. I can see the appeal of his music. It’s good relaxing music, but I can’t remember any song in particular from it. While I’m sure there is a lot worse to listen to this just wasn’t something that caused my ears to want more. He can sing, there is musical talent, but if fell short of what I personally like. It definitely didn’t match the initial curiosity I had.
Rating 2 of 5.
