Blue Sip Winery – Knoxville, Tennessee

Knoxville has become a destination you’ll want to put on your list to stop at in Tennessee. There is good food, a great local zoo, scenic river, and also a lovely and wonderful tasting winery. Blue Sip Winery is the first winery in Knoxville. It’s also the first urban winery in Tennessee. Not only does this make it unique, but so do the great wines. Everything we tried at the tasting was good no matter what your taste is.

The winery is set in the Historic Southern Railway Station of Knoxville. Designed by architect, Frank P. Milburn, between 1903-1904 for the Southern Railway Company. The contracting arrangement wound up being $100,000 for Nicholas Ittlner of Atlanta. (source)

The wine is grown by local Tennessee farmers, and the wine is made at the location at the Historic Southern Railway Station. This includes the Touriga, Cynthiana, Traminette, Steuben, Concord, Muscadine, Cayuga, Chambourcin, Syrah, Vidal Blanc,  Niagra,  fruity wines, and many more.

You receive a free tasting of 6 wines of your choice. You can choose between an assortment of dry, off dry, or sweeter wines. Prices range from $15.95 to $20 for a bottle. The Cynthiana won bronze at Wines of the South, and it was one of the ones we bought.

Plenty of events occur at and around Blue Sip Winery, including cooking classes. They also give suggested food pairings each month with a particular wine. The winery also provides the Historic Southern Railway Station for wedding, banquets, performances, and private parties. More photos of the venue space can be found here.

I personally loved the environment of the winery. You can tell  there is a true passion for making good wine here. We bought two bottles before leaving, Cynthiana and Traminette.
